Avery Elle Design Team–This Book & Bookmark Elle-Ments

Happy, happy Friday, friends!!

It’s been a crazy week for me!!  I’ve come down with a case of Vertigo, so I’ve been doing my best to keep the dizziness and nausea under control.  Needless to say, being in my craft room has been quite difficult.  But I’ve pushed through because honestly, I’m the happiest when I’m creating.  I’m popping in to share a couple of the projects I created for the newly released stamps and dies called This Book Stamp Set and coorinating dies and the Bookmark Elle-Ments from Avery Elle.  First up – This Book Stamp Set:

3-20-15 This Book Book Plates

Our grandsons love the Pete the Cat books – they’re fun to read, and the illustrations are super cute.  They’re coming to visit us next month in Arizona, and we don’t have any of their books here, so I ordered some on Amazon Prime and decided to put some commemorative (and identifying to avoid future fights) bookplates inside of them.  I die cut three plates using the You’re Invited Frame Die out of some full page sticker sheets (I had them on hand and usually use them for printing large postage labels).  I then stamped the stack of books from This Book, turning it on its side to look like the books are stacked on a shelf rather than on top of each other.  I colored the books with Copic Markers (still working on my techniques *wink*).  I then stamped each bookplate with the “This Book is For” and “From”.  I handwrote each child’s name inside the book plate and signed them from Grandma and Grandpa.  I had some books as a child that were inscribed inside, and honestly those were the books I always went back to look at and remembered as my favorites.  I’m hoping our grandkids treasure these the same way.  Here’s a close up of one of the bookplates:

Please forgive the bright yellow background – that’s the color inside the book.  Heeheehee

Next, I wanted to use the Bookmark Elle-Ments in an unusual and unexpected way.  Here’s what I came up with:

3-20-15 Bookmark Elle-Ment

I’m in the middle of taking the Online Card Class called Stretch Your Dies – there’s some awesome stuff in that class, I tell ya!  That class inspired me to look at that Bookmark die and figure out a way to use it in a way that would “stretch” its use.  Here’s what I did:

  1. I trimmed out an A2 top-fold card base from white cardstock.
  2. On another piece of white cardstock, I blended Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed, and Peacock Feathers to create a diagonal rainbow effect.
  3. I die cut the Bookmark Elle-Ment from the inked panel.  I removed the die from the die cut, flipped it around in the opposite direction, and placed it back onto the die cut  so that the hole was on the other side.  I also placed it further onto the die cut to make it a smaller size – one that fit the sentiment and the card front.  I then ran that through my die cut machine a second time.
  4. I stamped the “sunshine” from Simply Said: Hello with VersaMark and heat embossed it with black embossing powder.  I die cut the Hello Elle-Ment, three times out of white, and once out of New Moon cardstock.  I applied liquid glue to  each die cut and stacked them on top of each other, placing the black one on top.  I adhered the stacked die cut to the sentiment panel with liquid glue.
  5. I threaded some aqua ribbon through the two holes, wrapping the ribbon around the card front and tied it into a bow.  I also added some foam squares to the back of the sentiment panel so that it would stay in place.
  6. I adhered some clear flat back dots to  the card front with liquid adhesive and rounded the two bottom corners of the card base.

Pretty clever, huh?!! I was actually pretty proud of myself.  LOL  Be sure and leave me a message if you have any questions about what I did on either of my projects – I’m happy to answer any and all questions you might have!

That’s it for me today, friends!!!  I’d love for you to click on through to the Avery Elle Design Team Blog to see what Katie Gehring has to share with you!  I’m hoping to be able to get caught up on some stuff this weekend and also hoping to get the upper hand on this Vertigo thing . . . ugh.  I hope you have a great weekend – and thanks so much for stopping by!!

Clever, clever girl! That's such a cool way to utilize this die in a different way! A+++++ on your homework assignment! BEE-U-TI-FUL shading too!

Sweet book plates! This is such a great idea for a stamp...don't think I've seen one before! Grand kidlets WILL love them!

Hope you've managed to kick that nasty Vertigo to the curb!

Great idea and I love how you morphed the 'shelved' books to 'stacked' books. We are a family of readers and lucky that the grandbabies (9 grandbabies and 1 great-grandbaby...all living in AZ too) are following in the family tradition. I'll be creating bookplates now instead of handwriting inside their gifted books.
