It’s Countdown Day 2 for the My Favorite Things Beautiful Butterflies Card Kit!  Are you not completely blown away by the samples so far?  I mean, this Kit is so incredibly awesome, cards practically make themselves!  LOL  Here’s my sample for today!

When I saw this Kit, I knew I had to make a spinner card, where one of the butterflies appears to be “flying” in the center of hexagon frame.  I took this one step farther by creating a flip-flop card!  #BOOM!  Here’s how I created my card:

  1. Trim a 5.5” x 11” card base from Smooth White Card StockScore at 4.25” from top to bottom.  Then partially score the left side of the card base at 2-1/8”, at the top and bottom.  Fold the card base on the 4.25” score line, and perfect the crease with a Teflon Bone Folder.
  2. On a scrap piece of Smooth White Card Stock, blend some Picked Raspberry and Salty Ocean Distress InkStamp the detail stamp of one of the butterflies from the Beautiful Butterflies Stamp Set onto the ink blended area with Black Licorice Hybrid Ink, and then die cut the butterfly using the Beautiful Butterflies Die-Namics (both from the Kit.)  Do this twice, so that you end up with two butterflies.
  3. CREATING THE FLOP:
    a.  Place one of the 2nd to the largest of the Stitched Hexagon STAX Die-Namics on the INSIDE LEFT portion of the card base, positioning the die so that the top and bottom points of the hexagon align with the partial score lines at 2-1/8”.  Then position the next size down of the Stitched Hexagon STAX Die-Namic inside the other hexagon, and secure both dies with two pieces of washi tape.
    b.  Emboss the dies into the card base using an Embossing Pad (EMBOSSING SANDWICH:  I use my Cuttlebug plates for embossing dies because I know the configuration.  I’m unsure of  the Big Shot embossing sandwich, but I know that information is available somewhere.  From bottom to top, I use the Cuttlebug A Plate, B Plate, Embossing Pad, Cardstock, Dies, and B Plate on top.  I then run this through my Big Shot to emboss the dies into the card base.)
    c.  Partially die cut the hexagons from the center of the card base to the 2-1/8” score lines.  Finally, carefully remove the outside hexagon die, and die cut the entire inside hexagon.
  4. Reassemble the two hexagon dies that you used in Step 2, adhere them together with washi tape, and die cut the assembled hexagon dies TWICE from some black and white polka dot patterned paper from the Dots & Stripes Neutral 6 x 6 Paper Pad.
  5. Complete the score lines at 2-1/8” from the top and bottom of the card base to the top of the die cut hexagons.  Fold on the score lines, making sure that the die cut hexagon flops from the inside of the card to the outside.  Perfect the crease with a Teflon Bone Folder.
  6. Adhere one of the black and white polka dot hexagons to the front of the hexagon using 1/8” double-sided tape.
  7. Place more 1/8” double-sided tape to the backside of the hexagon.  Cut a piece of clear beading string and place it in the middle of the hexagon at the top and bottom points.  Adhere the other black and white polka dot hexagon die cut to the back of the card hexagon.
  8. Place a piece of 1/8” double-sided tape down the center of the backside of one of the butterfly die cuts.  Place that butterfly onto the center of the clear beading string.  Cover the backside of the other butterfly with strong adhesive tape runner, and adhere the two butterflies together.
  9. Stamp the sentiment from the You Give Me Butterflies Stamp Set (from the Kit) onto the inside right side of the card base using Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.

I love an interactive card, and this one just makes me smile!  That pretty little butterfly “flying” in the center of that hexagon is just so fun and happy, don’t you think?  I had a blast creating this card!  I’ve listed all of the products that I used below.  And here’s what the card looks like when you open it:

WOW Karolyn, this is gorgeous! I love making interactive cards like this but I haven't made a spinner in a little while. This inspires me to do so!
Have fun with the love bugs...mine are coming today for the day so we'll have some out door fun in the snow then come in for hot chocolate and some crafty time!
