It’s time!!  The October My Favorite Things New Release is available NOW!!  This month’s release is probably one of my most favorite of all time!!  Here’s one of the projects I created, featuring the new Deer Friends Stamp Set, coordinating dies, and the Stitched Circle Scallop Edge Frames Die-Namics!

I love creating clean and simple winter scenes.   I find them to be so serene and happy.  I’ve used an ink layering technique on the solid deer image to bring him to life, and a partial die cutting technique to cut his body and the antlers so that it’s one cohesive die cut.  Here’s how I created my project:

  1. Trim an A2, top-folding, vertical card base from Smooth White Card StockScore at 5.5”, fold in half, and perfect the crease with a Teflon Bone Folder.
  2. LAYERED INK TECHNIQUE:  Using a Mini MISTI, stamp the solid deer from the Deer Friends Stamp Set onto some Smooth White Card Stock, as follows:
    a.  Ink up the deer with some Biscotti Hybrid Ink, and stamp it onto the Smooth White Card Stock.
    b.  Ink up the deer a second time using Latte Hybrid Ink, this time carefully removing some of the ink with a tissue.  Stamp on top of the previously stamped image.
    c.  Ink up the deer a third time using Safety Orange Hybrid Ink, again removing some of the ink with a tissue.  Stamp on top of the previously stamped image.
    d.  Remove the deer stamp from the Mini MISTI.  Position the deer antlers stamp (from the Deer Friends Stamp Set) onto the Mini MISTI, and ink it up with Safety Orange Hybrid InkStamp the antlers onto the deer.
  3. PARTIAL DIE CUT TECHNIQUE:
    a.  Position and attach the coordinating antler die (from the Deer Friends Die-Namics) to  the stamped image with some temporary tape.  Position the top cutting pad from your manual die cutting machine so that the antlers cut out, but are still attached to the deer’s head.  Once run through your manual die cutting machine, carefully remove the antler die from the image.
    b.  Position and attach the coordinating deer die (from the Deer Friends Die-Namics) to the stamped image with some temporary tape.  Position the top cutting pad from your manual die cutting machine so that the deer’s body cuts up to the top of the deer’s head.  Once run through your manual die cutting machine, carefully remove the deer die from the image.
    c.  Using some detail scissors, trim around the area of the deer’s ears and head to remove the excess card stock that did not get cut out in the partial die cutting process.
  4. Using a Quickie Glue Pen, line the antlers with liquid glue.  Sprinkle some gold glitter onto the antlers.
  5. Use a dark brown Copic Marker to darken the deer’s nose.
  6. Trim an A2 image panel from Smooth White Card Stock, and die cut it using the stitched rectangle from the Blueprints 15 Die-Namics.
  7. Using a Mini Ink Blending Tool, lightly blend some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to the bottom, blending up towards the middle, of the image panel, and gradually fading out.
  8. Using the Circle 1 STAX Die-Namics, die cut a circle from the image panel.
  9. Using the Snowfall Stencil, apply some snowflake texture paste to the image panel, carefully remove the stencil, and allow to fully dry – about 15 minutes.
  10. Using a Mini Ink Blending Tool, lightly blend some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink on the card base, in the area where the circle will be once the image panel is adhered to  the card base.
  11. Die cut some trees using the Birch Trees Die-Namics from Smooth White Card Stock.  Arrange them, trim them to fit the card base, and adhere them to the card base with a tape runner.
  12. Stamp the cardinal from the Pure Innocence Season’s Tweetings Stamp Set onto some Cherry Crisp Card Stock using Cherry Crisp Hybrid Ink.  Use the coordinating Season’s Tweetings Die-Namics to cut it out.  Adhere the cardinal die cut to the branch of the birch tree using some foam tape.
  13. Adhere the image panel to the card base with foam tape.
  14. Die cut a scalloped circle, just slightly smaller than the previously die cut circle aperture, from Smooth White Card Stock, using the Stitched Circle Scallop Edge Frames.  Adhere it to the image panel using foam tape.
  15. Using the Stitched Snow Drifts Die-Namics, die cut two snow drifts from Smooth White Card StockStamp the sentiment from the Deer Friends Stamp Set onto one of the snow drifts using Cherry Crisp Hybrid Ink.
  16. Using the stitched rectangle from the Blueprints 15 Die-Namics, die cut the outside edges of the die cut snow drifts.
  17. Adhere the snow drifts to the image panel with foam tape.
  18. Adhere the deer to the snow drifts with more foam tape.
