How’s your Saturday going so far? I’m enjoying a leisurely morning, and am super excited to babysit my grandson later on today! What are your fun plans for today?
I spent the better part of yesterday working on the Fun With Fabric Challenge going on over at the Moxie Fab World blog. I swear Cath Edvalson sits up nights thinking of ways to mess with my head. Her challenges really CHALLENGE me!! LOL But I was determined to come up with something, so here ya go, Cath! It’s interesting to me that this card looks NOTHING like it did when I started this project. It’s gone through numerous transformations (just like a butterfly, right?!), and I’m happy to say that I’m thrilled with the end result.
The butterfly was cut out four times on my SLICE – yes, ladies and gentlemen, you CAN cut fabric on your SLICE! This was the first time I tried it, and it worked like a dream. I started with three different cotton fabrics (yummy colors, huh?!), and ironed on the Slice Fusible Web to the back of a 6” x 6” square of each fabric. I chose the butterfly image from the Just Chillin’ TEEN Slice Design Card, and cut it out four different times – once on each fabric, and once on white cardstock. Then I used a ruler to create a patchwork of each fabric, peeled off the backing and ironed on the three fabrics to the cardstock base. Then I used my Janome Sew Mini to stitch the patchwork together, using a zig zag stitch. I added some self-adhesive pearls for her body, and some Scrapper’s Floss for her antennae. Focal image – DONE!
The background panel was created by stamping the doily image from the SEI Juliette stamp set – so pretty and delicate. I used Hero Arts chalk ink, and was thrilled with how it worked – it dried super fast, and the coverage on the image was perfect. For the left border, I tried punching the fused fabric with a border punch – yeah, that didn’t work so well. So I added a couple of strips of punched DP from the MME Lush line, and cut out a slim strip of one of the fabrics I used on the butterfly. I stitched them to the background panel to mimic the stitching on the butterfly. Betsy Veldman was my inspiration for the left border.
STAMPS: Juliette (SEI), Have a Beautiful Day (A Muse)
INK: Snow Chalk Ink (Hero Arts), Smokey Shadow (Papertrey Ink)
PAPER: Going Gray CS (SU), White CS (Neenah), Lush DP (My Mind’s Eye)
ACCESSORIES: Slice Fusible Webbing (Making Memories), Slice (Making Memories), Just Chillin’ TEEN Design Card (Making Memories), Janome Sew Mini, Self-Adhesive Pearls (Kaiser Craft), Stampin’ Dimensionals (SU), Zig Zag Chain Edger Punch (EK Success), Donut Chain Edger Punch (EK Success), Corner Rounder (EK Success), White Scrapper’s Floss (Karen Foster), Rustic Button Thread (PTI)
Yes, I know it’s a lot of work for one little ole’ card. But honestly, I was determined to complete this project, and am over the moon happy with how it turned out. I hope you (and Cath) like it, too.
That’s it for me, kids! I’m off to get ready to hang out with Baby Brecken. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
