Well hello!
I am beyond thrilled to be guest designing with the amazingly talented girls over at the Runway Inspired Challenge today. I’ve long admired the fashionable inspiration prompts that Jennifer Rzasa supplies challenge after challenge, so to be included with her team of expert designers is an awesome experience for me! Thank you, Jennifer, for inviting me to play along!! Let’s get to the challenge, shall we?

Isn’t it amazing?!! I have to be honest . . . it totally freaked me out at first. Like, I could NEVER get away with wearing something like this. It’s just not me. But the more I looked at this photo, the more I really started to like it. As I typically do with these inspiration prompts, I try to deconstruct them a bit to pinpoint the things that I like, and then I simplify them. Here’s what I came up with:
I was inspired by the foggy, misty birch forest and the jewel toned colors in her skirt and coat. If you look closely at her skirt, it’s a mirrored butterfly pattern. I inked up a new birch tree stencil that I recently picked up. I used my fave Unicorn white pigment ink and a little finger dauber to do it. I heat set the ink, so that it would look somewhat mat (and I didn’t want to smear it with my fingers.) Then I die cut the butterfly and it’s base, and assembled it to reflect the jewel tones in the skirt. I die cut a banner out of vellum and stamped the sentiment in VersaMark, then heat embossed it with dark blue embossing powder. I’ve listed all of the products that I used below.
You so need to pop on over to the Runway Inspired Challenge to play along and check out the amazing loveliness that I know Jennifer’s team has cooked up for your viewing pleasure! I’m so grateful to Jennifer and her team for allowing me to be a part of this fun challenge, and I look forward to seeing what you all come up with! Thanks so much for stopping by today – it makes me so happy when you do!!

So beautifully done! I just love the way you've incorporated the trees so subtly in the background and the stunning inlaid die cut!
Gorgeous, die-cutting loveliness Karolyn! So glad to have you on board with us as Guest Designer for the Runway Inspired Challenge!
I really should not be visiting your blog...cuz EVERY time that I do, I head straight over to "the stores" to do some shopping! Last vist resulted in several $$$$ at PS & Ellen Hutson. This visit will have me heading over to Simon's store to see what he has for me to buy today!
Sorry, got side tracked!
Okay, so this card is another one of those ka-thunk, hit the floor hard kind of cards! I'm in awe of your creativity and how beautifully you put those ideas to paper! The birch tree background - genius! The velum banner and the stunning colors in the butterfly - gor-gee-ous!
So, I'm thinking that you should mail this card right back to yourself because "You Are Amazing!"
Stunning creations!! Looooooooooove the background and the gorgeous diecutting!!!
WOW...just WOW!
Karolyn, this is stunning. I adore how the butterfly is them main focus of the card, but there are those gorgeous subtle trees at the back. The colours are a perfect representation of the skirt. What a wonderful interpretation of the picture xx
Every time I would come to comment I am distracted by all the loveliness and blinded with delight at all the amazingness of your creations! I am pretty sure I get dazed and forget where I am! Too much wonderfullness on your blog Karolyn!
(sorry for being so late with this comment...)
