If It Isn't One Thing, It's Another . . . .

Hello My Creative Friends!

I wasn't able to stay up until midnight last night to choose a winner for last week's Twisted Thursday, although I had commented on all of the entries before I went to bed at 11:00. Wish I had stayed up now . . . when I woke up this morning to let Random.org choose a winner, MR. LINKY WAS GONE!!! What the HECK?!!!! First it's Internet Explorer giving me fits, and now it's Mr. Linky. For crying out loud!!!! I know there were at least 15 entries, but I don't know who those entries were off the top of my head. I'll hope and pray that Mr. Linky comes back some time today - I'll check back regularly throughout the day. If he doesn't . . . well, I'll have to come up with an alternative prize distribution method. Ugh!! In the meantime, I hope you'll all come back this Thursday for another fun Twisted Thursday challenge, and maybe by then, technology will finally agree to cooperate with us all!!

Happy Memorial Day!! Smiley from millan.net

Not only that, but I've finally been able to add Mr. Linky to yesterday's Twisted Thursday post! So, if you've been waiting for Mr. Linky to be added, please feel free to post your submission any time between now and Sunday night at midnight (PDT)! I'll add the links to the cards that were already linked in the comments . . . but I won't be able to do that until a little later today. I'm off to hang out with my friend, Joni for the day - we're going to see Angels & Demons. I'm so excited!! Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!!

We apologize for the inconvenience. — latest update on Thursday, May 21, 2009

Twisted Thursday #10 Winner!

Well, hello my sweet puter/blogging friends!! I'm so sorry that I've been MIA once again. DH and I spent the last 28 hours on the road this weekend, moving from our home in Arizona, back to our home in Washington State. Ugh! And if you must know, I got TRICKED by DH - he said we'd have a leisurely trip back, spreading the miles out over three days. Yeah . . . didn't work out like that! After we'd spent 14 hours in the car on the first day, I KNEW I'd been duped!! We made it to just south of Salt Lake City, UT the first night, and in our driveway by 9:30 p.m. the second day. So, I pretty much felt like I'd been drug through a knot-hole backwards by the time we got home and got the car unloaded. Truth be told, my craft stuff is still in the car . . . guess I'd better get that stuff out and organized again. Anyway . . . enough whining from me!

On to the winner of last week's Twisted Thursday challenge.

Twisted Thursday #10!!

We've got another fun Shirley's 2 Girls Twisted Thursday sketch challenge for you. And this is a good one!! This week's great sketch was created by Pat Dadisman, S2G design team member extraordinaire! Thanks, Pat!!

The "twist" this week is to ADD SCALLOPS. Easy, peasy, right?!! My sample for the sketch uses an image called No Place Like Home (SG 163) - the color scheme was the brainstorm of Deidre & Kristin, those wacky minds behind Shirley's 2 Girls. The design team was asked to create a project using the colors turquoise, marigold, lime, and fuschia. Sheesh!! They're not asking for much, huh?!! LOL Well, I had some DP that fit that bill perfectly!! Thanks American Crafts for saving my booty - as usual. You're not required to use these colors, but it sure would be fun if you did.

I really wanted to set off the smaller image of the house, so thought it would be fun to punch it out using a square nestability, and then pop it up through the hole from the inside of the card. There was a lot of punching, and cutting, and popping up, but I finally figured it out. And I must say, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. And how 'bout those blingy ruby slippers?!! This is such a fun image to work with.

We'd love for you to play along with today's Twisted Thursday sketch, too. Here are the rules:

  • Create a card, following this week’s sketch and ADD SCALLOPS!!

  • You are not required to use Shirley’s 2 Girls stamps, but if you have them, we’d love for you to use them!

  • Upload your card to your favorite online gallery and/or your blog. If you upload to SCS or PCP, please use the keywords S2GSC10 AND shirleys2girls.

  • Post a direct link to your card using Mr. Linky ON THIS POST.

  • The deadline for uploading your card is Sunday, May 17, 2009 at midnight (PDT).

  • The winner will be chosen using Random.org, so everyone has a chance to win. The winner will get to choose a stamp from the Shirley’s 2 Girls product list, and the winning card will be showcased here on my blog as well as on the Shirley’s 2 Girls challenge blog.

Oops!! Every Day Is Thursday to Me!!

Okay, if you just received a notification that today is Twisted Thursday, I AM SO SORRY!! When I schedule these posts, I typically have my calendar in front of me, mostly because every day is Saturday in my mind. That's what happens when you're retired. Hehehe So, I guess I didn't have my calendar in front of me when I scheduled this week's Twisted Thursday post - it posted a little early. But I've taken it down, and it will reappear tomorrow morning. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused you . . . . Hope you'll come back tomorrow to really play!! LOL

Thanks for stopping by!

My View . . . Go Fly A Kite!

Here's my sample for the Shirley's 2 Girls May 222 Challenge! I used the fabulous tutorial over on SCS for a Diorama card - such a fun and clever idea! The challenge was to create something using this template, and one of the provided sentiments. I know my "view" is a bit backwards - I think it would be pretty tough to fly a kite "inside" the house . . . but it's supposed to be MY view - not necessarily what's normal! LOL I used an S2G image called Fly A Kite (SG 43). What a fun challenge! I hope you'll play along with us - you have until next Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. - the winning submission will win $22 in free stamps!!

Stamps:
Fly A Kite (Shirley's 2 Girls SG 43), Chinese Clouds Background (Judikins), Tiled Scallops Backgrounder (Cornish Heritage Farms)

Paper:
Green Apple CS (Poptone), Blu Raspberry CS (Poptone), Grapesicle CS (Poptone), White CS (Neenah), Clear Acetate
Ink:
New Sprout (Memento), Sweet Plum (Memento), Tuxedo Black (Memento), Baja Blue (SU)
Accessories:
Ribbon, Stampin Dimensionals, Square and Circle Classic Nestabilities, Sticky Strip, Quickie Glue Pen, Dazzling Diamonds, Copic Markers, Scor-Pal, Cuttlebug, Tag Die Cut (Spellbinders)
Before I forget, tomorrow is an all new Twisted Thursday challenge, right here on my blog. I hope you'll stop by to see a fun new sketch with a fabulous twist!!
Thanks for stopping by!

Bad Friend!!!

I messed up big time!! I forgot my friend Erin's birthday yesterday, and now I'm just so mad at myself!!! I have a history of being bad about birthdays . . . mostly because I just don't care about my own, so I think I project my distaste for birthdays onto everyone else. It took me 50 years to realize that recognizing and remembering someone's birthday is important, if anything but to let your friends know that you're thinking of them. So, I had been doing better about remembering that . . . until yesterday. Ugh!! Of course, Erin was really sweet about it - I would expect nothing less from her. But I mean, what could she say - "Yeah, Karolyn, you SUCK as a friend for forgetting my birthday!!" That's what she should have said . . . but she didn't. So, I'm doing my best to make it up to her. I hope she'll forgive my horrible character flaws when she sees her birthday card.
Isn't she cute?!! This image is one of my new craft stamps from Janlynn Corp. called Floating Softly. She's illustrated by Frances Mahon, whose images I was introduced to by my friend, Terri. They're BIG stamps, which is always a struggle for me. I wanted to showcase the main portion of the image, so I did sort of a modified Spotlight Technique by stamping the entire stamp on the main lavendar panel, then stamping it again on white cardstock, coloring it, and cutting it out with my Rectangle Nestabilities to focus on the main portion of the image. Cute, huh? I just love these darling little fairies - I have three more that I plan to use for more cute fun in the future!
I colored her with my new Lyra pencils and Gamsol. I've recently been studying a couple of designers (Paula Tracy - Paper Possibilities and Linda Heavens - Heavens Created This) that are just amazing with these Lyra pencils. I love the look of the Gamsol/pencil technique, but have always struggled with it myself. Paula and Linda seriously just ROCK this technique, so I figured if I purchased the exact same products that they use, that my coloring would be miraculously transformed!! Uhhhh . . . no. It didn't exactly work out like that. But I really like these Lyra pencils, and plan to continue to work with them. I'll also continue to study Paula and Linda's designs . . . and hope that my coloring begins to improve.

Stamps: Floating Softly (Stamps Happen)
Paper:
Grapesicle CS (Poptone), Green Apple CS (Poptone), Blu Raspberry CS (Poptone), White CS (Neenah)

Tuxedo Black (Memento), Sweet Plum (Memento)

Baby Announcements and the May 222 Challenge!

After last week's Shirley's 2 Girls New Release Blog Hop, my head was just swimming with more ideas as to how to use the new products. I've created a couple more projects that I'll be sharing with you over the the next couple of weeks (one of them will be shown this Thursday for Twisted Thursday), but I wanted to share with you a couple more of those fun little Match Box Baby Announcements.

Both of these were made using two of the new Peek-A-Boo digi papers that Shirley's 2 Girls just released last week. Aren't they darling?!! I coordinated the S2G papers with some digi gingham paper and used the sentiment from another of the new S2G images called I'm Here (SG 67). Several of my daughters friends are expecting their first babies, so I thought I'd throw these together to give them some fun options of announcing their future bundles of joy. Too fun, huh?

Before I forget, Shirley's 2 Girls has posted the May 222 Challenge today, and they've offered some really generous Gratitude Attitude (that's "code" for free stamps!!) for the winning submission. We all like free stamps, and I KNOW you all love a good challenge, so head on over to the Shirley's 2 Girls Challenge Blog to see what's going on!! You have until next Tuesday to come up with an idea, so get a move on!!

Stamps: I'm Here (Shirley's 2 Girls SG 67)
Paper:
Peek-A-Boo Digi Paper (Shirley's 2 Girls), Gorjuss Ginghams Digi Papers (Funky Fairys Papercrafts), White CS (Neenah)
Ink:

Accessories:
