SNR/Card Universe "Oh Say Can You See" Blog Hop & BLOG CANDY!!

Welcome to the SNR/Card Universe "Oh Say Can You See" 4th of July Blog Hop!! Phew!! That was a mouthful, huh? If you came from Nicky Bookout's blog, Hooked on Stamps, you are on the right track! If you didn't, you may want to hop to the SNR Card Universe and start at the beginning! I'll provide the details of my project below, but I wanted to let you know that at the end of THIS post, I'M GIVING AWAY SOME AMAZING BLOG CANDY!!! So, don't go away before you check it out and enter to win!! Okay?

For me, the Fourth of July represents so many wonderful things about being a U.S. citizen! But my fondest memories revolve around family BBQ's, bonfires, and fireworks. I hope that I've captured the essence of my memories in my project. First, my card uses an adorable digi image from Shirley's 2 Girls called Family Fun (DG 22). I created a "shaker card" using the following steps:

  1. I printed the image three times; twice on white cardstock, and once on a transparency.
  2. I cut out the cake portion of the image with my scissors, and then used my Square Nestabilities to cut out the main panel. I also created a square scalloped frame around the main panel using my Square Scalloped Nestabilities.
  3. I cut the transparency panel smaller than the main panel, and adhered it to the back of the main panel using red sticky strip.
  4. I then used foam tape on the back of the main panel to create a raised frame. I poured star confetti inside the foam tape frame.
  5. I colored the second cardstock printed image using my Copic markers.
  6. Next, I cut out the colored image panel and attached it to the back of the main panel so that the image lined up with the cut-out on the front panel.
  7. The card base is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" square. I layered white cardstock and the striped designer paper on the card base. Next, I cut out another square red panel, and cut that in half, creating a triangle panel. The star designer paper is layered on top of that.
  8. Royal blue polka dot ribbon was added, as well as a computer-generated sentiment cut out with a Spellbinders tag die and attached using Scrapper's Floss. Dazzling Diamonds was added as an accent using my Quickie Glue Pen.

Easy sleezy!! As a finishing touch to my Fourth of July project, I created a gusseted clear bag with all the makin's for two smores (got this cute idea from Nichole Heady's blog)! Now THAT'S what Fourth of July is all about for me!! I created a fun little tag using another darling digi image from Shirley's 2 Girls called Independence Gracie (DG 19). Isn't she so cute? Bonfire and fireworks, here I come!!

Your last stop on the hop is Tammy Bayer's blog, Dapple Designs, be sure to stop by!

Congrats on 10K! Fabulous projects and so inspiring. Wow now this is some amazing celebration candy. My favorite memory of the 4th was growing up and having block party and shooting fireworks forever. Can you believe that the kids would get tired of shooting bottle rockets? Thanks for a chance.
Happy 4th!

10,000 hits--unbelievable, Karo! Wow, that is exciting. And to think I knew you when. . . My favorite 4th story is of being 14 years old and going to Lake Rushford in New York where I learned to water ski. I remember Uncle Buck bought a crate of corn and we soaked it in the lake all day so we could have a corn roast that night while the "little ones" ran around writing in the air with their sparklers. Great memory and soooooo long agooooooo.
Great candy, Karo. Very generous.

WOW! 10,000!
My favorite 4th memory is driving to a secret spot my parents found to watch the fireworks and walking the Friendly's for a treat before the fireworks.
It seems simple to some, but it's the little things that count!

WOW!!!

10,000 that's alotta visits.

My favorite 4th of July memory is right after DH and I got married going to sit in the grass on the side of the mall. We could see both sets of fireworks displays in town. And we didn't have to deal with the crowds at either fireworks displays.

Awesome card! I love how you detailed the process. What an amazing bunch of blog candy! WOW!

My favorite 4th of July memories are the ones where I am a small child, dancing in the street with sparkler in hand, loving the smell of the bbq, and the feeling of community.

Great blog.

My favorite 4th of July memories are the ones I am making now with my own granddaughters, taking them to the parade and watching the fireworks at night. Growing up we would have a cook-out, but nothing special, and I'm trying to change that with my own family.

Wow, Karolyn, you are a tough act to follow. I feel like the singer that comes out after the superstar. LOL! The s'mores kit is inspired and your stamping and coloring are top notch. Beautiful giveaway, too.

My favorite childhood memory is riding my red tricycle with sparklers in my hand. Loved that. Now, the thing that always makes me giggle is watching the fireworks with my son and husband. They always say "that must be the grand finale" several times before the end of the show. Always makes me laugh. Can't wait to see how many times they say it tonight.

My favorite 4th of July was one I spent with my grandpa, he took me out and let me pick out all the fireworks I wanted, we went out in the field, ate home-made ice cream and watched the sky light up!

What great projects! My favorite memory is when I was a kid. We lived near a drive-in theater and if I could stay awake, I'd get to watch the fireworks that they would set off between movies. We'd put lawn chairs in our yard and fight the mosquitos waiting for the fun to begin! Life was definitely simpler back then!

Terri said...

Good grief girlie...did you rob a craft store? When you say blog candy, you ain't a kiddin'!

Well, this 4th of July I have already been golfing and was back home and showered by 10:15, going to be a hot one so we had to get it in early!

My greatest memories would have been when I was a kid (yes, back in the stone ages) when our entire extended family ( and it's a big one) would go for a picnic on the river...we would rent inner tubes and float down the rapids. It would start early in the morning and go late into the night!

Have fun at your sis's today!

Terri said...

Oooops, was so into my "memories" I forgot to tell you how stinkin' cute your card and "goodie" bag are. Yummmmm, I could really go for a smore right now. Love it!

We used to go to the lake every year. It was a family patio. It wasn't a cabin, just a covered patio so you pretty much camped out. But we watched all the locals light off there fireworks. I remember the smells, sitting on my mom lap.

Your card is awesome ...HUGS...SK :)

I had such a wonderful July 4th last year. My children/grandchildren all live out of state, and only visit once a year. They came for July 4th. We went out to watch the Fireworks, with the grandchildren all dressed in their RED, WHITE, and BLUE. It was a favorite memory.

Hi Karolyn! Amazing projects (so cute)! I'm not sure if I can still enter your blog candy because I don't have a 4th of July memory (I live in Canada). If not, it's okay =) So in place of a favourite 4th of July memory, here is my favourite Canada day memory. My friends and I went down to watch the fireworks and to beat the traffic when leaving we made a mad dash to the car when we thought the show was almost over. Well 15 min later, I could still see the show going on in the back window of the car =/

Love your projects and that is an excellent tutorial! Thanks!! holy blogcandy batman. That's incredible. I'd love to win some, of course....and here's my favourite 4th story. We're Canadian, and always wanted to "experience" the 4th on your side of the border so we headed for relatives in Omaha a few years ago and were, well, flabbergasted, really, when, at dusk, everyone in the bay they live on, dragged bins of fireworks to the end of their driveways and started shooting them off for over 2 hours. It was so much fun and my kids got to hold huge sparklers....they'll never forget it and they beg to go back every year at this time :)

Thanks for the chance to win, and the inspiration!

Holy stinkin' moses, Karolyn!!! This blog candy is so above and beyond, I can barely get my crafty mind around it!! Your card is absolutely fantastic, great job on everything you did to pour yourself into it, wowy!! I've had some great 4th of July memories, but honestly this year's kinda tops them all. We walked in our small hometown parade today, with our northern Colorado group of Soldiers' Angels (we adopt soldiers who are actively serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, send them 2 or 3 letters a week and 1 or 2 care packages a month), and we bought candy for our 7-year-old and 6-year-old to throw to the little kids on the parade route. It was something else, watching the little kids as they saw mine coming with the candy!! Such innocent joy (yes, despite our contributing to a sugar fix) =)

My fave 4th of July memory would have to be going to see the fireworks for the 1st time with DH. Plus, it wasn't nearly as crowded as the sites that were hosting the displays. The fireworks were breathtaking.

WOW Karolyn, that's some blog candy and some comments! Your projects are beautiful!

My favorite 4th of July Memory goes way back to before my husband and I were married...it was our first "holiday" in our brand new house a few months before we actually got married. Just the 2 of us, in the pool, looking up at the fireworks and dreaming of the future! Awww....so sappy!

Fav memory had to be at one of our annual family reunions when my cousin Landon lifted me up on his shoulders so I could see the fireworks better. He is 20 yrs older than me and about 6' 5. I was the youngest of 55 grandchildren and I felt so special! Happy 4th to you & yours!

I'm in Australia so don't celebrate 4th of July, but my favourite Territory Day memory is of the one just gone (1st July) of my little girl just loving all the 'sparklies' and fireworks, and she still says 'fireworks' when she hears a loud noise!

Wow! 100,000 hits! That totally ROCKS! LOVE, LOVE your transparency on your card! My fav memory of July 4th was in 1986 when we were in Washington DC at the Iwo Jima Memorial waiting for the fireworks to start and it started SNOWING!!! My poor grandmother and my poor DD (6 at the time) were all bundled up in blankets and I was wearing a furry colored ski jacket. Don't think they've had such a cold 4th before or since! Now I live in S Florida where we don't get any snow! ;) gassgirl340@yahoo.com

Congrats on your milestone - and your projects were amazing! Being a canadian, we celebrate our country on July 1st. I would say this year was pretty special overall. My dearly beloved's brother is a fighter pilot in our air force and this year was home so we could get the entire family - all 16 of us counting spouses and kids together for a family photo session. It was a special day indeed - but on June 30th. A wonderful way to ring in our nation's birthday.

Wow!!! Congrats on 10K hits and for offering such an amazing blog candy.

Anyway, my favorite memory of 4th of July celebrations has to be the time I got to see the fireworks display in Bay City, MI. It was in the early 90s. It was amazing and well worth the time it took to get there!!! The finale was off the bridge and into the water below. It looked like a waterfall and all the concussions going on above was awesome! The whole thing was set to patriotic music and at the end everyone stood up and cheered, even the boats in the river were honking their appreciation. That day I felt lucky to be an American, proud of our country and thankful for all the men & women who have fought to make this our home. 2nd favorite was the time I was in DC, on the mall and watched the display. It was truly something to appreciate being in our nation's capital on Independence Day.

What amazing blog candy goodies! My absolutely favorite 4th of July memory is from 1976, the year our country celebrated its bicentennial. A friend of mine's mother worked in the World Trade Center, and the employees were allowed to bring in guests to the offices to get the amazing view the buildings offered for watching the parade of Tall Ships as they came up the Hudson River. It was quite a sight, and a very festive atmosphere as well.

Thanks for the chance to win.
