Splendid Sunflower Teaser Time (My Favorite Things Guest Designer!)

Hello My Peeps!!

Well, I am beyond excited to announce that I am the My Favorite Things August Guest Designer!  How freakin’ cool is that?!!  I am a huge fan of My Favorite Things products (especially their card stock and inks – OH EM GEE!!), so I can recommend their products without hesitation!  As the guest designer, I have the pleasure of sharing some projects throughout the month that showcase this month’s new release.  And today is my first day! Woohoo!

I have three cards to share with you today that feature the new Splendid Sunflower stamp set by Lisa Johnson.

MFT Splendid Sunflowers2 7-31-13

We’ll start with the most traditional look of the sunflower.  This stamp set has six images (the parts of the sunflower) and four coordinating dies.  I die cut the flower and leaves and stamped them using Lemon Drop and Jelly Bean Green ink, respectively.  The center was stamped first with Hot Fudge ink and then with black.  Can you see how rich that Hot Fudge ink is – so deep and rich!  I die cut the 3 x 4 Notepad Die-Namic from some designer paper, and stamped the sentiment with Hot Fudge (it’s so dark and rich, it almost looks like black!)  The sentiment is from another amazing new stamp set by Lisa Johnson that will be featured later this week called Grand Greetings.

My next project is a little less expected.  I thought that the sunflower image from this set could also be used as one of those amazingly vibrant Gerbera daisies that I love so much.  So again, I die cut the flower and leaves, and stamped them in Razzle Berry ink and Sour Apple ink, respectively.  I stamped the triangles using Jumbo Mod Borders, creating a graphic black and white contrast.  The center of the flower was stamped and black and white buttons were stacked and adhered to the center of the flower.  The flower was then arranged and adhered to the card base with foam tape.  That sweet sentiment is from Birthday Greetings.  I adore the black and white contrast with that bold pop of amazing Razzle Berry from the flower – don’t you?!

ETA:  The above card also fits the Moxie Fab World: The Trendy Triangle Challenge!  YAY!!

MFT Splendid Sunflowers3 7-31-13

My final project features a technique that I always love doing.  It’s the partial die-cut/emboss technique.  I cut a panel of Nightshift Blue cardstock and taped the sunflower die to the panel and ran it through my die-cut machine – but only ran it through halfway so that the machine cut only HALF of the flower.  I then removed it from my die cut machine, trimmed the panel to remove the excess, and readhered the die to the flower/panel with some washi tape.  I then changed up my die cut machine plates to a sandwich that I normally use for embossing (each machine has a different sandwich for cutting vs. embossing – I’d be happy to share mine if you’re interested) and ran it through my die cut machine again.  The result is that the right side of the sunflower is die cut, and the left side is simply embossed into the panel.  Here’s a close up of what it looks like:

The sunflower and flower center were stamped using white pigment ink – I love the drama of the white against that amazing navy cardstock.  The sentiment was stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed with some green embossing powder.  It’s also from the Birthday Greetings stamp set.  I had some awesome chartreuse satin ribbon in my stash that I think adds a lovely pop of color and drama.

Well, that’s it for me today, kids.  For all of the My Favorite Things release details, INFORMATION ABOUT WINNING SOME FREE PRODUCT, as well as links to some other Teaser projects, please click on through to the MY FAVORITE THINGS BLOG!  I’ll list all of the products that I used on these projects below.
