Online Card Class HOmework–Day 1

Hi Peeps!

First, I’d like to thank you all for the kind words and comments on my big news about being added to the Runway Inspired Challenge team.  You have no idea how much your kind words and comments mean to me, and how much they just fill my heart.

Next, I want to share a couple of the projects that I created over the last couple of days for the Online Card Class – Watercolor for Card Makers, that I’ve been taking.  Oh my goodness – this class is a blast!!  I’m having so much fun learning all kinds of fun techniques, using products that I would never think could be used for water coloring, as well as new-to-me products that are making this water coloring thing awesome!  But, before I share my projects, let me just say that the instructors of this class make this stuff look so freakin’ easy.  Ummmm . . . I’m either “water color challenged” or this crap is HARD!!  LOL  But I’m pushing through, wasting a TON of water color paper (thankfully I ordered quite a bit in anticipation of the class) on my first and second attempts, and feeling accomplished when I finally get it right . . . or as close to right as it’s going to get with a water color challenged numbskull like myself.  LOL  So here are the projects that I created for Day 1, which focused on water color backgrounds.

Occ Water Color Day 1 Hello

So, this card was inspired by a technique taught by Jennifer Rzasa.  She is uber talented and is so very generously sharing her water color skills with us rookies.  The technique that she shared was to do a color wash and then lay a stencil over the top of the wet paint, let it dry, to then expose the pattern from the stencil.  Let’s just say that I flat out STRUGGLED with this technique!  I watched her video over and over and over . . . and FINALLY got this result (after trashing many, many pieces of water color paper.  LOL)  What I finally figured out is that this technique needs to be done on a relatively smooth type of water color paper.  Otherwise, it doesn’t work!!  A friend of mine shared a piece of Bristol water color paper, and I finally got this technique to work.  I’m pretty darned happy with it, and am so glad that I pushed through until I figured it out.

OCC Water Color Day 1 - So Thankful for You

My second project was inspired by (and pretty much CASE’d) the adorable Laura Bassen.  She demonstrated a technique where you apply distress ink to a clear acrylic block, spritz it with water, and then press it onto the water color paper.  You repeat this four different times, each time overlapping the newest color with the previously applied color.  The sentiment was die cut with my Cameo.  This was a super fun technique and one I will most definitely try again!

OCC Water Color Day 1 - Happy For You

The last card that I created for Day 1 was inspired by a project that Kristina Werner did.  Basically it’s an emboss resist technique.  I stamped the stitched background with VersaMark, heat embossed it, and then did a rainbow wash of water color over the top of the embossing.

I’ll list the products that I used on these projects below.  I’ve got some additional projects to share for Day 2 and Day 3, but I’ll share those in a separate post.  My goal is to create at least one project per day, and more if time allows.  I can tell you that the first thing I’ve been doing every morning is running to get my cuppa joe, and then heading to my craft room to watch the new day’s videos!!  It’s seriously so much fun!!  There’s still time for you to sign up, as once you sign up, you have lifetime access to the videos and content.  You can find all the deets here.

Thanks for popping by today!  See you again tomorrow!

Wow! Those are fantastic cards! I am still struggling with the first technique shown. I will have to try it on some smoother paper and see what happens. :)

A+ to you! Look at you - three cards! When I read your comment on my blog, about emptying spritzers and going through watercolor paper, I thought you'd been in my house yesterday!

Looking forward to your return to the PNW - we miss you!
