Happy Sunday, friends!
I’m popping in quickly to share two of the projects that I’ve created for the Online Card Class that I’m taking called Stretch Your Stamps 2. When I tell you that these instructors are knocking my socks off with fun twists and ideas to stretch your stamps in ways that you wouldn’t normally think of, I’m telling you the truth! I’m having so much fun!
DAY 1 - My first project was inspired by a technique demonstrated by Shari Carroll. I love Shari’s work – she has such a fun and whimsical eye for design, and really knows her techniques! Her technique was called Faux Watercoloring using a reverse background stamp and distress inks. One of the best tips that Shari gave was that when doing this Faux Watercoloring technique, many times the second generation impression is the best. This was definitely my experience. I smooshed some distress inks in a random pattern on my craft sheet. I then spritzed my background stamp, laid it down into the ink, and wiggled it around ever so slightly. I then impressed that upon a piece of distress watercolor paper (I used the smooth side) and carefully lifted it off. The first impression was pretty bold, and was pretty. But nothing like the second impression when I re-misted background stamp and impressed it once again onto another piece of distress watercolor paper. VOILA! Such soft, pretty colors with that amazing “watercolored” look – be still my heart! I trimmed it up and mounted it to a card base. I die cut the sentiments and adhered them to the base with foam tape and liquid glue. I then sprinkled some clear sequins around for some whimsical fun. I’m so happy with how this turned out, and will most definitely do this technique again!
DAY 2 - My second project was inspired by a technique shared by Laura Sterckx – this girl is 16 years old, y’all!! OH EM GEE! The talent is oozing from this young lady, and she’s very generous with her knowledge. And so calm, cool and collected in her video! I am in awe! She shared an Ombre Resist Background technique using distress inks. I tried it – and I suck at it. So, I tried her suggested alternative, which was to create an Ombre Resist Background using watercolors. I pulled out my trusty Peerless Watercolor Sheets and went to town. First I stamped the background image in VersaMark onto distress watercolor paper (rough side) and heat embossed it with white EP. I then created a watercolor wash over the entire panel, allowing more ink to sink into the bottom of the panel, and less at the top. It dried so beautifully! I then die cut the sailboat image with my Silhouette Cameo and created a shaker card. The sentiment was die cut and stamped, and adhered to the card from with foam tape. I am pretty stinkin’ happy with the end result of this card!
I’m off to spend the day cropping with my friend from college. Please pray that it stays cool today, as it gets so hot in my craft room when the weather heats up! We’re two old and menopausal lunatics – I simply can’t deal when it’s hot! LOL But I’m looking forward to creating more projects inspired by the Stretch Your Stamps 2 Class! Thanks for stopping by!

LOVEEEE your cards Karolyn!!! It's stunning!!
Karolyn you cards are just gorgeous! I love the faux watercolouring and now I am itching to try it! The sweet sailboat shaker is just too fabulous! Now I am inspired! ;)
Oh both of your cards are fabulous! Those techniques sound so fun! I had decided watercolor wasn't my thing, now you have me wanting to get them back out again! haha! Hope it stays cool for you!
Beautifully done! Love the soft watercoloring of both cards.
Love both of these cards. They looks so soft and just wonderful. I'm surprised the watercolour paper was able to be used on the silhouette after adding the water colour effect. I would have thought the paper would warp and not hold properly to the mat. I'm new to my silhouette but would love to try this with my million and one water coloured sheets. Thank you so much for sharing.
Two terrific card, Karolyn! LOVE the watercolored bkgrd on the birthday card. Great bkgrd and inking on the sailboat card, as well. TFS your terrific creations. :)
Your cards are both amazing, Karolyn! I've pinned them both, such inspiration!
