How was your weekend?!  Mine was really nice . . . quiet, but nice.  Got a little crafting done, and actually did some housework.  That part was not so fun.  LOL

I’m back today to share another Baby, It’s Cold Outside challenge project for the ABC Toys & Crafts DT Challenge.  Have you played yet?!  If not, you need to get your craft on PRONTO!!  You only have until this Saturday, January 22nd to play along, so you best get on it!!

So, I thought a Snow Day Fun Kit would be appropriate for the theme.  I picked up this darling paint can at JoAnn’s the other day and thought it would be fun to decorate it with some die cut vinyl.  This stuff is a blast to work with!!  It’s self-adhesive, so I’m guessing that it will adhere to pretty much any surface.  It worked beautifully with this paint can.  So I created a winter scene with a snowman (a Sizzix die I got on sale at JoAnn’s), and some colorful snowflakes (created with the Create A Flake 2 Shapeabilities).

Once I adhered all of the pieces for my winter scene, I created a tag to go along with it.  I created the tag using the Labels 14 Nestabilities and Classic Ovals Nestabilities.  The sentiment is stamped using the new Typewriter Letters clear set from Hero Arts – I love that I can create my own sentiments with that, don’t you?!!  I attached the tag to the paint can by attaching an eyelet and then tying it on with some baker’s twine.

This could be filled with some hot chocolate, some playing cards, maybe some color crayons, and how about some hand lotion and lip balm for those Snow Days, huh?!!  The possibilities for contents are endless!!

Warm Winter Wishes Mittens 2 VIEW SLIDE SHOW DOWNLOAD ALL

I’m back today to share another Baby, It’s Cold Outside project for the ABC Toys & Crafts DT Challenge.  Who doesn’t think of warm mittens when it’s cold outside?!  I know I do!!  In fact, I wish I’d had a sweet pair like this Saturday night when I was freezing my bootie off at the Fiesta Bowl!!  Yes, kids, it’s been really, really cold here in AZ the past few days.  I’m hoping that the cold temps are short lived because I’m ready to get back to warmer temperatures.

 

But I digress . . . back to my project.  I die cut the mittens using the Nested Mittens Shapeabilities - one set out of red felt, and one set out of white cardstock.  I then embossed the white mittens using my fave Swiss Dots Embossing Folder (no craft collection should be without that baby!)  The circle was cut using the Lacey Circle Nestabilities, and the white strip was embossed with a snowflake embossing folder that I had in my stash.  Add some buttons and yummy baker’s twine and you’ve got yourself a fun little winter note for a sweet friend!

So it’s Stampavie week at ABC Toys & Crafts.  My sweet DT sisters will all be sharing their favorite Stampavie image with you all, and I’m starting the week off with my fave Sarah Kay stamp called “Sabine Watching Snow Fall.”  Is she not the sweetest thing ever?!  And check out that sparkly snow!!  That’s White Liquid Applique and Dazzling Diamonds applied while still wet, then heat set with my embossing gun.  I am so in love with the effect that the heat has on the White Liquid Applique – it just pops right off the page and adds some amazing dimension, don’t you think?

I stamped Sabine onto cream cardstock using Tuxedo Black ink.  Then I colored her with my Copic Markers – I haven’t had those babies out in a while and it felt good to play with them again.  I cut the image out using Classic Rectangle Nestabilities and my Cuttlebug.  The sentiment came from a new Hero Arts holiday set called Merry Christmas Trees (currently out of stock)– isn’t it pretty?  The layout is a SHAMELESS CASE of a card I saw on Julie Lacey’s blog HERE.  I even used the same DP and everything!  The only changes I made were the image and the sentiment.  I’d been feeling a little under the weather all day yesterday and my brain just wasn’t working right.  Julie’s work always inspires me so thank you, Julie, for helping me knock this out.

I’m a very literal challenge player, I’ve discovered.  You can see from my project that I not only created a project with a sewing theme, but I also used machine stitching in my design.  Pretty clever, huh?!!  LOL  I stamped the dress form image (from the Hero Arts Sew Artsy clear stamp set) onto some canvas that I picked up at my LSS using Rich Cocoa ink.  I stamped the dress form image a second time onto cream cardstock, and then fussy cut it out.  I cut out the main part of the canvas dress form, and paper pieced it onto the CS dress form.

If you click on the picture, you’ll notice that I’ve used fabric on my project instead of designer paper.  When I was at my LSS, they’ve now rearranged the store so that half the store contains scrapbooking materials, and the other half  contains quilting supplies.  OMGosh – freaking amazing stuff, I tell ya!!  I picked up several coordinating fat quarters and couldn’t wait to use them on this project.  I used my Classic Oval Nestabilities to cut out the cream colored polka dot fabric, which I adhered to a cream CS panel.  The pink frame was cut with Scalloped Oval Nestabilities.  The back panel was created by cutting out two coordinating fabric panels and then stitching them to the kraft CS panel.  Oh and check out that little skirt that I created and attached to the dress form!!  That’s just a scrap of one of the coordinating fabrics, folded in half, stitched on both sides, and then turned so that the seams are on the inside.  I then stitched a basting stitch at the top, and pulled the lower thread to make a ruffle.  I then wrapped the ruffle around the dress form and added a bow with a glue dot.  I was tickled pink with how this project turned out.  I hope it inspires you, because we’d be thrilled to pieces if you’d play along with us!!

I’m here to share another ABC Toys & Crafts project with you.  This week the Design Team is featuring the newest Fall and Christmas Sarah Kay/Stampavie images.  I chose Francesca in the Winter Field.  Isn’t she sweet?  I chose to make her more of a fall girl rather than a winter girl.  With all those beautiful leaves, I just couldn’t help myself!  I colored her with my Copic Markers and cut the image panel and Pumpkin Pie layer out using Classic Square Nestabilities, and framed the image using the Lacey Square Nestabiltiies.

As I colored this sweet image, I thought about all the things in my life that I’m thankful for.  I’m most thankful for my sweet, sweet hubby, as well as my amazing daughters, and my adorable grandson – so family is at the top of my list.  I’m also so thankful for the blessing of being able to be in sunny Arizona during the winter.  I’ve finally arrived here, and immediately felt the heat of that sunshine.  Ahhhh . . . happy happy!!  What are you thankful for?

I hope you had as nice a weekend as I did.  I got to stamp all day on Saturday.  Sooo fun!!  Yesterday we celebrated my oldest daughter’s 27th birthday, which is today.  Happy Birthday, Ash!!  Today, I’m babysitting my sweet little munchkin . . . can’t get enough of that little snuggle bug.  How about you – any fun happenings over the weekend?



I’m here today to share another project for ABC Toys & Crafts.  Today’s card features a sa-WEET set from Stampavie/Rachelle Anne Miller called Tea Time.  There are three images in this set, and I used the tea pot.  Isn’t it fun?!!  This card measures 4” x 4” – I love making mini cards every now and then.  Plus, it gives me a chance to use the Ornamental Bigz Die from Sizzix/Tim Holtz in a unique way.  I love cutting it out, and then cutting it down for a cool border.  Looking at the card now, I wish that I had stamped the sentiment, which is from a clear stamp set from Hero Arts called Essential Messages, on a banner or tag so that it showed up better.  Oh well . . . live and learn, I guess.  I also used my Lacey Circle Nestabilities to layer behind the main image.  I ADORE those Lacey Nestabilities, don’t you?!

My card features the wreath from Peace and Plenty.  I stamped the wreath image in Versamark and then heat embossed each one in a different Zing embossing powder.  The layout was inspired by a card that I saw on Dawn McVey’s blog a while back, and the felt embellishments were created using the new Lacey Circle Nestabilities.  I don’t typically like long cards, but I think I’m pretty happy with the way this one turned out.

The weather has been amazingly gorgeous here in Washington – we’ve had the most beautiful autumnal days . . . I almost hate to leave next week.  But I’m sure it won’t be too long before the rain starts pouring, and I’ll be so happy that I’m in the AZ sunshine again!!

What’s Perking?

It’s ABC Toys & Crafts Monday!  Yes, you read that right – Monday!!  LOL  I’ve been asked to be the interim DT Coordinator while our fearless leader, Justine, takes a little leave of absence.  Poor girl – she moved to the states after being in Italy for 100 years, and it’s taking her a bit to get settled.  But we love her, we’ll miss her, and we’ll wait for her to come back to us.  In the meantime, the poor DT is stuck with me to boss them around.  LOL  Lucky for them, it’s short term.  Right, Justine?!  LOL  If you have a chance, drop by her blog and leave her some love – I know she’d appreciate it.

I can smell it now.  Mmmmmm . . . the BEST!

Nestabilities and Cuttlebug Storage Solution!!

Hello Peeps!!

I'm crazed today - pre-holiday mania.  But I wanted to share my Nestabilities and Cuttlebug Embossing Folder storage solution that I've found works for me.  I don't know about you, but I've managed to accumulate quite a large collection of Spellbinders dies, Cuttlebug Embossing Folders, and other Sizzix and Quickutz dies and embossing folders.  I was running out of room!!  Until I came across THIS post.  My creative life had changed forever when I saw found this information.  I was able to condense 60+ sets of Nestabilities and Die Cuts, and just as many (or more!) embossing folders into four 3" 3-Ring binders. Wow, wow, wow!!  So, I thought I'd share with you the details of how it all works.  Warning - there are lots of photos, so be sure and scroll all the way through!!

NESTABILITIES STORAGE:

What you'll need:

Zip N Flip Large

I purchased the Large Zip N Flips from ABC Toys & Crafts - they're really hard to find for some reason, so I buy them when I see them for future use.  They're $14.99 ea., and have two sheets per package - eight pockets per package - 16 pockets total per package.  This is enough for 32 sets of Nestabilities!!

Magnet Sheets 

 I purchased the magnet sheets from Lowe's for $4.60 per package - I found them in the heater vent section (they're supposed to be for covering up your heat vents in the winter).  There are three magnet sheets per package. 

Label Creator

I already owned my label creator.  I just print out the labels for each set.  Easy Peasy!!

I cut the magnet sheets with my paper cutter into panels that measure 4" x 6.25" - this size fits inside the pockets perfectly.  I can get 12 panels out of each package - each panel can hold one set of Nesties, so one package of magnet sheets is enough for 12 sets of Nesties.  WOW!!

 

Here's what my Nestie and Die Cut Notebooks look like all filled up.  I'm now into my second 3" 3-ring binder (each binder holds 5-6 Zip N Flips).  What can I say?  I loves me some Nesties!!

I also use the Medium Zip N Flips for my smaller die cuts, labeling them the same way that I labeled my Nesties above.

CUTTLEBUG EMBOSSING FOLDERS STORAGE:

Cuttlebug Embossing Folders

Basically, I use the exact same system for my embossing folders, but without the magnet sheets.  Any A2 sized embossing folder (or smaller) will fit inside the Large Zip N Flips.  I label the pockets and place one embossing folder per pocket.  So you could store 16 embossing folders in one set of Large Zip N Flips!  Pretty good, huh?  Any A2 sized folder will fit inside these pockets, no matter the manufacturer - I have Sizzix and Quickutz embossing folders and they all fit!!  The only thing that I've found that doesn't fit inside these pockets is the larger embossing folders.  Cuttlebug has now come out with 5" x 7" embossing folders - they do NOT fit inside these pockets (darn it all!!)

I use the Medium Zip N Flips for the smaller embossing folders (again purchased from ABC Toys & Crafts for $14.99 per set.)  There are two sheets per set, 16 pockets per sheet, for a total of 32 pockets.  Now that's storage for a BUNCH of little embossing folders.  I have Cuttlebug minis, Sizzlets and Quickutz minis.  All fit.  These pockets can be used for a ton of other items, too - the possibilities are endless!!

So I hope this information is helpful to someone.  I've tried over and over to figure out the best system for storing my die cuts and embossing folders.  This system works for me, and has room for expansion without starting all over!
